Austrian Indie Pop tells a story about love and life in six chapters
After six singles, Mary Broadcast will release her new concept EP "PANIC" on January 21, 2022 on the indie label Between Music, which will also be available on vinyl and CD later this year. With the concept EP, the band leader and guitarist expands her commitment to social women's issues with a very personal dimension. With the cycle of six songs and six videos, she and her indie pop-rock band tell the painful but also inspiring story of a woman who has to re-sort her inner and outer world after a miscarriage. The EP has already been featured on Austrian Television and Radio as well as Austrian and German newspapers where it received numerous reviews. Fans have already compared the band to PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi, Kat Frankie, Blondie or Patti Smith.
For the EP, band leader and guitarist Mary Broadcast created an avatar: Aver is a strong woman who, after a great misfortune, desperately sets out to find love and her way back to life - all in six episodes.
6 songs, 6 videos, 6 photos: interwoven world of sounds and images
The stories were released as six singles in 2021 and now collected on the EP. Each song is a story accompanied by a video and a photo. Stories that act independently, yet are interwoven. Six snapshots of current conflicts of our time. "We offer a journey that leads from overall social conflicts, to the unique relationship of two people, to coming to terms with one's own wounds. This journey is visually accompanied by videos and photos to end up in a personal dialogue with one's self," the artist explains. "Six is the number of perfection, also a religious number, because the world was created in six days. We created our own world in six songs and videos." All six songs are written in the key of G major or G minor, completing the concept on a musical level as well. The six videos accompanying the songs add up to a short film that tells the whole story.
About Mary Broadcast
Mary Broadcast is a singer and guitarist, but also a musician, composer, bandleader, booker, producer, CEO of her own project. As a woman, she has been independently and self-confidently on the road in the international music business for years, pursuing her dream independently and creatively, without any big partners in the background. She consistently campaigns for the visibility of musicians by regularly conceiving women's talk & music evenings. She stands in a line with musicians who do not conform to the typical pop circus and do not just portray the beautifully made-up dolly with a good voice, but represent an independent art figure and build their career independently away from the mainstream.
About the band
The band underwent a transformation with the previous album SVINX - also live on stage. The four musicians build up their sound worlds, tower loud and wild over their audience, unleashing themselves and everyone with loud guitars and synthesizer sounds. Above them the delicate and at the same time powerful and intense voice of Mary Broadcast. Some say she is the Austrian PJ Harvey. If the band made its way to the indie pop rock genre with SVINX, it has finally arrived there with the new EP Panic.
